Dual Valve Spring Kit, BBC w/ Hyd Flat Tappet Cam

Fitment: 396-502 with 3/8" stem diameter valves

Spring seat machining not required.

This dual spring kit is designed to fit a wide range of Iron BBC heads; from mid 60's 396 all the way to late model 454 & 502 engines. Also fits many Gen 5/6 engines.

Since modern engine oils lack zinc and other important additives needed for hyd flat tappet cams, on this kit we strive to hold spring pressures to reasonable figures as too much pressure can lead to failed lifters and/or lobes.

This kit is designed to produce 110 Lbs seat pressure and reasonably sufficient open pressures. The goal here is to have enough seat/open pressure to offer solid performance without added excess which could contribute to accelerated wear and added risk of lobe/lifter failure.

For those who prefer higher seat/open pressures, we offer kits with: 120 Lbs seat, 135 Lbs seat or higher. Check our other listings.

Another good feature of these springs is they have a larger inside diameter compared to other BBC springs. Still, you cannot use the factory umbrella seals but can get away with some of the smaller umbrella seals available in the aftermarket.

Of course, it's always best to have the guides machined down to accept positive seals which are superior to umbrella seals but for some projects, machining the guides is not an option.

Vsk5m-53 can be used with most high performance hyd flat tappet cams w/ duration @ .050" between 220 to around 242 degrees and with up to around .600" lift.

Proper installation requires measuring all the spring positions installed heights and shimming as necessary.

* NOTE-1: Heads with rotators under their stock springs will need to replace them with "rotator eliminators".

* NOTE-2: Dual springs will not accept factory type umbrella seals. Either the guides need to be machined down to accept .500", .530" or .562" seals or special small OD umbrella seals could be used. (if available) We recommend machining the guides to one of these popular sizes so positive type viton valve seals can be fitted.
