Original equipment on many Gen I High Performance 302, 327 and LT1 350 engines from the 60’s.

After all these years, they are still popular with the high performance Hydraulic cam street scene.

Applications with over .500" lift can consider one of our many high lift spring kits listed in our store.

  1. Not compatible with aftermarket retainers where the damper will sit on the retainer step. These are intended for use with OEM SBC retainers where the damper sits on the same surface as the spring. Using them on aftermarket retainers where the damper sits on the stepped portion will cause the damper to bind early which reduces the available lift range and can cause the damper to wear or break.

  2. Heads which came with rotator retainers on the exhaust will need to replace them with actual retainers. Do not use Z28 springs w/ rotators. If your heads have rotators, replace them with the same retainers as used on the intakes. (good used ones from your local machine shop)

  3. 305 engines & late 70's to 80's 350- Due to the lower spring base height on the exhaust locations, some 305 & late 70's - 80's 350 heads w/ exhaust rotators will need -.075" down locks and shims to establish the correct installed heights. The easiest way to verify if the spring base is machined deep is to compare the height/length of the old stock springs. If the stock springs are the same height, then the exhaust spring base height is the low design and will need -.075. locks and a .030" shim or they'll need a stack of shims to reduce installed height by around .100".
  4. If the stock springs are different heights, long on intake and short on the exhaust, the spring base is not the lower factory machined version and will produce similar installed height as the intakes.
